Total revamp of a well-known brand, Swiss Youth Hostels. High expectations for design and usability, complex requirements for the back-end interface, and careful attenton awarded to the users. A 100% Spoiled Milk solution.
The Swiss Youth Hostels has a varied network of 56 hostels in Switzerland – both in the cities and out in the lovely Swiss alps. The main aim for the organisation is to provide cheap and quality accomodation to young people encouraging travel, activities and social exchange.
Their previous website was built in a CMS with insufficent flexibility for accommodating day-to-day tasks. The look and feel also brought associations to the previous millennium and did not reflect their goal of being a friendly, welcoming host to young people.
After having looked at several agencies in Switzerland, the decision for the job ended up being Spoiled Milk.
The main reasons included our in-house developed Casein CMS, which we planned to fully customise for this project, and our emphasis on design quality and determined project management.
First up, our creative team put focus on design and usability. The site would have to be appealing to the younger audience, it should score high on usability to help users navigate large amounts of information, and it should put weight on action: Users visit to book beds.
Next, the screens went into production for the front-end templates. Nice feature details were added and new ideas came up along the way.
Finally, the bulk of the project, we built the intelligent underlying layer via the open-sourceCasein CMS framework, from which all aspects of the website can be controlled and planned.
The client is thrilled about the newly launched edition and the users have taken it to heart.
